At today’s council meeting of the ICAEW Peter Wyman stepped down as president, handing over the reigns to KPMG partner David Illingworth.
Amongst the many gratitude speeches that followed, council member Stella Fearnley stood up to thank Wyman for the way he had put the profession’s case forward.
In fact, she argued that Wyman had in fact become quite a media star – the ‘David Beckham’ of accountancy.
‘There were times I could only hear from him by turning on the radio,’ she said. ‘Peter got more press coverage than Kylie’s bottom!’
