New board structure agreed for ICAEW

New advisory boards as part of institute's reinvigoration
Plans to implement a new advisory board strategy at the ICAEW were passed by
the institute’s council members yesterday.
During the monthly council meeting held at Moorgate Place, council voted for
the introduction of a new advisory board structure to better represent the views
of its members through three sectors: business, practice and public services.
Originally planned as part of the ICAEW’s plans to merge with CIPFA, it is
one of the first signs that ICAEW chief executive Eric Anstee is pushing on with
his overall strategy of reinvigorating the institute.
However some council members voiced concerns that it had not been made clear
that an advisory board for practice involved swallowing up various other
practice organisations, such as the Practice Society.
‘I’m confused about the practice society, now apparently we’re abolishing
it,’ said council member Richard Harwood.
‘It’s been clear to me we don’t want loads of boards…we’re sweeping it away
and putting [the new boards] in place,’ Anstee responded.
He outlined that each board would have to determine how it wanted to
structure itself in dealing with approaching members.
‘The boards clearly have a voice upwards, but must get the voice of
constituents in,’ said Anstee.
