Internet giant Google has been accused of “ducking its social responsibility”
after it was revealed the company avoided paying tax on its £1.6bn UK
advertising revenues.
Accounts filed at Companies House show the search engine specialist paid just
£141,519 in corporation tax in 2008, which was tax on the interest generated by
its UK bank deposits.
All its earnings from advertising hade been moved to its Irish subsidiary,
allowing it to legally avoid paying more than £450m to HMRC, the Sunday
Times reported.
