Unpopular freelance and contractor tax rules receives revision promises from the main parties, says the PCG
Unpopular tax rules around contractors will be dealt with after the election,
whatever party comes into power, according to representative body PCG.
The PCG said it had had meetings with various parties that it had found ”
fruitful and productive”.
“We detect from all political sides a desire for a revision of
IR35
legislation and indeed we received a boost in our battle for fairness over this
invidious tax only last month,” the PCG said in a statement.
The
Conservatives said that IR35 would be a priority when it
established an Office for Tax Simplification.
IR35 was introduced to catch employees falsely being treated as freelancers
to reduce their tax bill. The rule has proved unpopular in how it defines
workers, with many arguing that they are unfairly designated as employees.
