AN ACCOUNTANT jailed for stealing £1.3m is to have her assets sold to cover the amount she defrauded from her employers.
Tracey Andrea Laws of Newcastle has been told she must pay back £428,928.35, which represents the value of her current assets, after appearing at Teeside Crown Court for a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing.
Between 1998 and 2008 Laws wrote 75 fraudulent cheques from her employer, auto dealership Preston Hall BMW in Stockton, including £750,000 to a riding school that she bought using money stolen from the company, according to the Evening Gazette.
She also paid her former husband’s painting and decorating company £567,000 and another £26,000 to a bank account in his name.
Laws was jailed for four years in July after pleading guilty to two charges of theft and one of converting criminal property.
