John Whiting appointed into the newly-permanent tax director role at the Office of Tax Simplification
JOHN WHITING has been appointed in the permanent role of tax director at the Office of Tax Simplification.
He remains in his role, which he has served in since the office was created by the coalition government, alongside chair Michael Jack.
The OTS was launched in July 2010 to provide independent advice to the chancellor on simplifying the tax system.
It has been busy over the past year, suggesting merging income tax and national insurance, and is currently looking into the taxation of small businesses.
The roles are voluntary, however an honorary payment of £12,000 a year will be paid to Whiting in recognition of his contribution to government policy making.
Exchequer secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, said: “The government believes that taxes should be simple to understand and easy to comply with. The work of the OTS is central to achieving this aim and I am pleased that the Office will be strengthened with the permanent appointments of Michael Jack and John Whiting.”
John Whiting said: “I’m delighted to have been reappointed to the tax director role to help build on our great start and drive forward our projects. There is a lot to do!”
