Taxman gains power to bill for court costs

THE TAXMAN will be able to charge costs when it wins cases entered into at county courts from April.

HM Revenue & Customs, which was previously unable to recover costs, now has its rights aligned with other creditors, reports the ICAEW Tax Faculty.

The costs are represented on a sliding scale set by the Ministry of Justice, and shown as ‘solicitor’s costs’ on claim forms.
