AN ATTEMPT to force ACCA executives to face the same disciplinary process as its members was defeated by just one vote at its AGM today.
Special reform motions put forward by a group of ACCA members led by Anthony Thorne included narrow defeats at the institute’s AGM, with one proposal shot down by a single vote.
Some 2,653 ACCA members voted for the senior management team to be subject to the same disciplinary rules as applies to members – versus 2,654 against the proposal.
The eight motions included calls for ACCA’s senior management team to be subject to the same disciplinary rules as its members; that the institute’s CEO and executive team hold ACCA membership having qualified through examinations and; the practice of delegated proxy voting ceases.
The group also proposed that all senior named council officers be appointed by the members at the AGM and members of council are given the right of free speech.
However, the institute has appealed to its members to vote against the motions, noting that they pose a threat to “ACCA’s future and – most immediately – the organisation’s strategy for 2020”.
In all, approximately 5,000 of ACCA’s 178,000 members turned out – approximately 2.8% of the institute’s membership.
More to follow tomorrow.
