ANDREW Poxon of Leonard Curtis has been appointed administrator at Lancashire-based plastic bag manufacturer Nelson Packaging.
Around 40 staff have been made redundant at the plant which has now closed.
The company’s managing director, Michael Flynn, has blamed the government’s 5p plastic bag tax and overseas competition for its current predicament.
Nelson Packaging, in business since 1975, which made bags and assorted packaging products, was bought by Warrington-based packaging group, Intelipac, in 2011.
The bag charge was introduced in England in October 2015 some four years after Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Plastic bag use has reportedly plummeted by around 70% since the charge was introduced.
Leonard Curtis was appointed on 25 February.
