Global Blockchain Business Council making inroads into industry

David Treat has been announced as the latest member of GBBC’s board

Blockchain is perhaps one of the most complicated technological innovations that exists in modern times—the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) aims to educate businesses all over the world as to how blockchain can benefit them. GBBC is the leading industry association in the blockchain ecosystem.

The latest move in this long-term strategy has been the recent appointment of David Treat from Accenture to the GBBC board.

Treat is a managing director and co-lead for Accenture’s Blockchain Business, joining the GBBC board with over 20 years of experience in financial services: consulting and industry roles such as retail banking and capital markets.

GBBC announced in their statement: “His expertise includes running strategy functions, innovation, strategic cost management, large-scale restructuring, customer relationship management, and M&A.”

“We are delighted to welcome David to the board,” said Tomicah Tillemann, chair of the GBBC board.

At Accenture, Treat has proven key in driving the formation of the firm’s blockchain business—it now spans the globe and engages clients across all industries, including financial.

Treat has a long list of titles to add to his name, including: Accenture’s lead for the New York FinTech Innovation lab, member of the board of directors for Hyperledger, a Linux Foundation Project, the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, and the ID2020 Alliance—to name but a few.

More importantly, Treat is on the board of advisers of the Chamber of Digital Commerce, which further pushes for the implementation and understanding of blockchain in industry.

“David’s vast industry experience comes at a crucial time in the GBBC’s business development and strategy,” said Tillemann.

“We are confident that David’s expertise will strengthen the council’s work on behalf of the global blockchain community.”

GBBC is focused on bringing together “innovative” organisations. With Treat proving to be a lead into many different exciting organisations and projects, it is likely much can be achieved with him on the board.

In response to his appointment, Treat said: “I look forward to joining the GBBC team to help advance the understanding of blockchain technology amongst global leaders and regulators. The potential of blockchain and its ability to transform industries and drive [a] real social impact is unparalleled.”
