Lobbying body the Professional Contractors' Group is up in arms over plans to include representatives from Indian IT firms in debates about IT skills shortages in the UK.
The India Business Group (IBG), which represents 100 Indian IT firms in the UK, attended last week’s IT sector panel meeting to advise the Home Office on skills shortages across the sector.
‘Offshore is going to happen, but we don’t have to accept it and we don’t have to aid it,’ said Ian Durrant, external affairs director at the PCG.
‘The IBG has a vested interest in wanting more people to come over on visas. They want to take the market offshore. We’re dead set against it.’
Durrant maintained that the inclusion of the IBG was a response to concerns by the Home Office that the panel was not employer focused enough.
