CIPFA member Peter Ripley, principal accountant at Lancashire County Council, has been elected chairman of the CA-Masterpiece Users Group. The group represents the interests of the users of Computer Associates’ Masterpiece range of integrated financial management software worldwide.

Price Waterhouse management consultants have sorted out a disastrous IT implementation at the armed forces’ catering and retail arm, the NAAFi. The firm was recruited after 70 major program difficulties were identified including key defects with invoicing and billing systems. The NAAFI had been unable to test the system fully before going live and as soon as the contract started there were problems. According to a National Audit Office report last week, the system cost the NAAFI u75,000 in compensation with a further u35,000 claim in the pipeline.
