The site – www.ukonlineforbusiness.gov.uk/infosec – offers general advice on security issues such as virus and hacking attacks, employee misuse, and security standard BS7799. Small and medium sized enterprises make up 80% of British industry.
It also links through to Department of Trade and Industry security studies and free government publications, and an online survey which can give an indication of how prepared a company is against electronic attacks.
‘We’ve aimed this at smaller companies as large organisations tend to have a more coherent security strategy already in place,’ said a spokesman for the Stationery Office, which developed the site.
‘While the site is structured broadly around the BS7799 standard, it is meant as a starting point and we will develop case studies, online forums and more help as time goes on,’ he added.
