Many organisations have planned their IFRS-compliant software requirements too late for the 2005 deadline, said Atos KPMG Consulting MD Gary Reader during his speech on ‘IFRS the right way, IFRS the wrong way’.
Reader added that many of these companies would have to ‘muddle through’ their projects over the next 18 months.
He also said that companies should use IAS 2005 software projects as an opportunity to improve their financial reporting processes.
CODA Group chief executive Jeremy Roche said that corporate governance isn’t just the premise of the finance or IT departments – control must be taken at board level. Roche was speaking at the ‘The role of IT in corporate governance’ round table masterclass.
Oracle finance director Norman Green added that IT is just an ‘enabler’ for good corporate governance. ‘It’s people that do dishonest things. Corporate governance is a cultural thing, it’s not about the systems they have.’
