Gordon Brown demands international co-operation to crack down on terrorist finances
Chancellor Gordon Brown has demanded ‘redoubled’ international co-operation
to crack down on terrorist finances and freeze all funds to which terror
organisations have access.
Brown said the UK has already frozen over £370,000 in 45 accounts in order to
disrupt terrorist finance, and announced the Treasury has established an
inter-departmental asset-freezing working group to identify and vet appropriate
targets for freezing action.
Delivering a Commons statement, he said Britain will support improved
technical assistance to those countries that need to enhance their counter
terrorist activity ‘so that no country will offer a hiding place for terrorist
finance’.
