Hard times push charities to seek VAT exemption

Charities should be exempted from VAT potentially giving them a funding
injection of up to £500m as they see donations dwindle in the current economic
crisis.

Jasmine Whitbread, the head of Save the Children, is reported to have called
for the exemption during an interview for the Today programme.

Tax-news.com reports her saying: ‘Five hundred million pounds could be
released back to charities through exemption from VAT.’
