A former PwC partner has swapped life at a firm to take on a senior role at
the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Carlo V di Florio takes up the position of director for the agency’s office
of compliance inspection and examinations – the same unit which
came
under criticism for failing to prevent Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi
scheme.
Di Florio will be responsible for nationwide examination programs for
investment advisers, broker-dealers and credit rating agencies, among others.
He was most recently a partner in the finance services regulatory practice at
PwC and one of the firms leaders in corporate governance, ethics and enterprise
risk management.
SEC chairman Mary Schapiro said: “A strong inspections and examinations unit
is instrumental to the SEC’s investor protection efforts.”
“Investors rely on our examiners to ensure that their financial professionals
comply with the law,” she added.
