Two entrepreneurs on the hit TV show Dragons Den are feuding over non-dom tax
status.
Dragon Duncan Bannatyne believes it is “unfair” that fellow dragon James Caan
does not pay tax in the UK on money earned overseas as he is classed as a
non-dom, the
BBC
reported.
Bannatyne believes Caan is now in direct competition with himself in the
health club industry, after Caan acquired five health clubs in the UK.
In a quote that the BBC said had been removed from the Daily
Telegraph’s website, Bannatyne reportedly said: “As I pay UK tax on all of
the earnings that fund my lifestyle, and corporation tax on all of the profits
made by my businesses, I am clearly at an unfair disadvantage.”
In a statement in the Evening Standard earlier this week, Caan said:
“I do not apologise for my country of origin, Pakistan.”
