A think tank has said the House of Commons should by inspected by the
National Audit Office and should undergo a value for money report.
The proposal comes from the
Institute
for Government which says that change in the wake of the expenses scandal
has “not yet gone far enough” and concludes: “The House needs to do more to
strengthen its governance and improve its capacity to manage change and and deal
with risk.”
The institute is a politically neutral think-tank set up with the aim of
improving the skills top flight civil servants and politicians.
However, emerged in August last year that the NAO was already planning how it
would go about auditing MPs expenses.
