US trustee claim accountants were enablers in $20bn fraud
TWO ACCOUNTANTS accused of helping Bernard Madoff pull off his $20bn fraud (£12.6bn) are now being sued for £$900m (£567m), ABCNews.com reports.
The trustee, Irving Picard, who is recovering money for creditors, has filed a lawsuit against accountants Frank Avellino and Michael Bienes.
A number of family members of the accountants were also named in the suit.
The pair are accused of being “enablers” in Madoff’s vast scheme. The pair did not comment to ABCNews attempts to seek a response.
