David Gauke is to remain as financial secretary to the Treasury in David Cameron's first all-Conservative government
DAVID GAUKE has been reappointed as financial secretary to the Treasury in David Cameron’s first all-Conservative government.
Gauke, Conservative MP for Hertfordshire South since 2005, was appointed financial secretary to Treasury in July last year. Previously, he was exchequer secretary to the Treasury, a role he had held since 2010.
His appointment follows speculation he was set to become pensions minister, a role subsequently filled by Ros Altmann.
Cameron also named former deputy chief whip Greg Hands as George Osborne’s second-in-command as chief secretary to the Treasury.
In other appointments, former culture secretary Sajjid Javid joined the cabinet as he was made secretary of state for business, innovation and skills and Anna Soubry was handed a business brief, taking on the newly-created role of small business minister in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
