Steve Varley, Chairman & Managing Partner, EY

Bio

Steve Varley graduated from Loughborough in 1990 and went on to become a partner at Andersen Consulting / Accenture between 1991-2005.

After that, Varley moved to EY in 2005 to lead the firm’s advisory business and was appointed chairman and managing partner in July.

Varley is also on the investment committee of the Social Business Trust, which supports the growth of social enterprises in the UK.

Why is he included on the Financial Power list?

Varley ranks eighth in the 2018 Financial Power list.

Joining the Big Four firm at a time of economic stagnation in 2011, Varley made the decision to invest tens of millions of pounds into the business. His strategy paid off, with EY consistently reporting exponential revenue growth– reaching £2.35bn in 2017.

Varley is also a member of the 30% Club, a group of FTSE-100 Chairmen committed to having at least 30% of their board members being female, and has been a champion of diversity within EY.
