HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN FC could face yet another winding-up order, should it fail to pay around £100,000 to HM Revenue & Customs in outstanding PAYE and National Insurance contributions by the end of today.
The 2012 Scottish FA Cup winners had been due to pay off their PAYE arrears last Monday, but the Edinburgh club had the deadline extended by a week, the Herald reports. It is as-yet unclear whether the club has made any progress in paying the debt, but it is hoped season ticket sales will cover the shortfall.
If the deadline is not met, the tax-man could initiate another winding-up petition – the second in eight months and the sixth in recent years. Last November, the club was the subject of court action over unpaid tax, eventually agreeing to pay £1.5m over three years and, in a separate bill, also paying £450,000 in two instalments.
The club had similar winding up orders served against it in 2011, 2010 and 2009 over unpaid tax to HMRC. In all of those instances, the club settled with HMRC by paying the taxes due.
Hearts offered no comment on the matter.
