ERM wins award for Russian job
Environmental Resources Management (ERM) has won the 1996 British Consultancy Firm of the Year Award.
The environmental consulting firm received the accolade from the Duke of Gloucester, president of the British Consultants Bureau for a project on energy reform for the Russian city of St Petersburg.
The work was carried out as part of the European Technical Assistance for the Commonwealth of Independent States programme (TACIS), which examined cost-saving methods the city could use to move the ailing eastern European industry forward, while avoiding some of the environmental blunders seen in the West.
ERM’s managing director Eric Turner said the firm had won because of its success in tackling issues involved in a project on global climatic changes. He said: “It’s a very important project in terms of energy development for that region, because there are lots of countries that have now got to look to themselves on how to develop energy, what the future demands will be, and how to move from a state-controlled enterprise to the private sector.”
The firm’s strategic plan looked at pricing, infrastructure and legislation, as well as environmental issues.
