Profile: Michael Fowler, Edwards Sports House
Squash-playing, rugby-loving Michael Fowler FCCA has been appointed financial controller at South Wales’ largest independent sports fashion retailer, Edwards Sports House.
Fowler’s keen interest in the sports world combined with a desire to get into industry made the role attractive. He joins Edwards from Deloitte & Touche in Cardiff where, after qualifying as a certified accountant, he worked as senior manager in the business services department. Having gained extensive experience in servicing many owner-managed businesses – covering financial management, accounting, financial forecasting, business planning and auditing – he now intends to apply his skills in the retail field. ‘I am extremely pleased to join such a forward-looking, dynamic organisation as Edwards, where I plan to use my knowledge to enhance day-to-day activities as well as meeting long-term objectives,’ says Fowler.
As well as managing all operational, financial and administration functions and stepping in for directors when required, Fowler will control the health and safety policy as well as the financial recruitment for the 11 Edwards stores.
With three Nike stores and the recently opened Reebok concept store in Cardiff up and running, Fowler sees managing Edwards’ continued expansion as top priority. ‘In the next three to five years we are hoping to almost double our number of stores to 20 and aim to remain the biggest player.’
