Taking Stock - And ... They're off!
The similarities between thoroughbreds like Her Majesty the Queen, boxer Chris Eubank, football manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and the English ICA may be counted on the fingers of one hand. But the one thing uniting the institute with the celebrity rich and famous is the sport of kings. Most prominent is the current institute president, Dame Sheila Masters, who keeps race horses. So keen is the Dame on the elegant sport that last year she invited 70 guests to help celebrate her 50th birthday at an evening race meeting at the Lingfield racecourse in Surrey. Now it seems the spread of equestrian pursuits is to be continued with the election of PwC’s Peter Wyman as vice-president. Odds on that when Wyman is installed to presidential office in 2002, the Moorgate branch of William Hill will see a resurgence in business from Chartered Accountants Hall. Meanwhile, any readers with hot tips can gladly call their racing predictions in to Taking Stock on the usual number.
