TakingStock - More tales from the soaps.
Back in the mists of time, TS told how the world’s favourite tax expert, and ACCA’s media supremo, Chas Roy-Chowdhury was helping the BBC with its designer depression soap, EastEnders.
At the time Chas had taken a vow of silence about the plot line he was advising on, obviously fearing a visit from the heavies of Walford if he grassed up.
But now TS can reveal Chas was doing his bit to send Peggy Butcher/Mitchell down for VAT fraud.
Peggy’s estranged hubby Frank had left gaping holes in the VAT as well as the savings accounts, leaving Peggy to face the music and sell the Vic.
This of course sets the story line up nicely for Sharon’s triumphant return to the Square.
Unfortunately, Roy-Chowdhury is not an avid watcher of the soap, and so is blissfully unaware of Peggy’s plight.
But friends have contacted our tax expert to say how realistic Peggy’s accountant was.
‘I’m not sure whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing,’ said ACCA’s ace taxman.
