Business leaders to get DTI roles
The Department of Trade and Industry will name three leading business people to its new strategy board designed to make the government ministry more focused.
The Department of Trade and Industry will name three leading business people to its new strategy board designed to make the government ministry more focused.
The strategy board is part of a radical restructuring, the biggest since 1983, unveiled today by trade secretary Patricia Hewitt.
The board will be made up of seven people chaired by secretary of state Stephen Byers, and will be given an ‘unprecedented’ role in Whitehall.
Hewitt told the Financial Times the DTI had suffered from a ‘lack of focus, for the customer, too many schemes and inadequate leadership by the department across Whitehall.’
She added she wanted to turn the DTI into a ‘flagship’ ministry in boosting enterprise and productivity.
