Public accountants to keep on learning
Public sector accountants will face compulsory career-long learning if a crucial vote of CIPFA members agrees a move towards mandatory continued professional development.
As revealed by Accountancy Age last year, CIPFA has been debating whether CPD should be mandatory and its council has now agreed to put the issue to a members’ vote.
Steve Freer, CIPFA’s chief executive, said: ‘In order to meet their public interest obligations modern professionals have a clear responsibility to demonstrate that they are maintaining their core skills and competencies and keeping pace with the rapid changes of today’s world.’
CIPFA said it had been consulting with its members on the redesign of its CPD scheme, the results of which are to be announced later this year.
