ICAEW names new secretary general
The institute has named Peter Owen as its new secretary general following the sudden resignation of John Collier this morning.
Owen is currently executive director of the institute’s professional standards directorate.
Following his appointment, Owen said he was looking forward to the challenge ahead, adding that he would continue to do all that he could ‘to ensure that the institute continues to serve the needs of its members and the wider public interest’.
In a statement the ICAEW said: ‘John Collier today announced his decision to resign as secretary general of ICAEW as at 31 March 2002. He will step down immediately.’
ICAEW president Michael Groom thanked Collier for his ‘many years’ at the institute, pointing out that during Collier’s time in charge, the ICAEW had seen the ‘successful introduction of the new ACA, the launch of our new regional structure and the modernisation of the institute’s management systems’.
Groom said he was ‘delighted’ that Owen had accepted the post, adding that he would bring ‘a wealth of experience and expertise to the post’.
Collier said he had enjoyed his time as general secretary and wished the institute ‘every success’.
