    Andersen dealt Delta blow

    Underfire Andersen has been dealt another severe audit defection blow after the third largest airline in the US, Delta, dumped the firm after more than five decades.

    The Delta blow follows hot on the heels of drug manufacturer Merck, its biggest client, and mortgage lender Freddie Mac. So far this year, some 30 clients have ditched the firm.

    Delta has revealed it is moving its business to rival Big Five firm Deloitte & Touche. In 2000, Andersen earned £4.2m from the airline.

    Industry insiders believe the firm may be forced to enter into a merger with a rival or even collapse.
