The new chief executive of the ICAEW-only UK 200 Group is planning on opening its membership to small practices belonging to other institutes.
In an exclusive interview, Mark Hayward, who will take over as UK 200 group chief executive on June 1 said that, pending members’ acceptance, he was planning on including other accountancy institutes, such as CIMA and ACCA.
‘The idea has acceptance from members but we now has to work through the ramifications of including other institutes,’ Hayward said.
To join, a small firm from another institute would have to submit itself to a ‘rigorous peer review’, which until now has been conducted by chartered accountants that are not in UK-200 member firms.
Hayward said the UK-200 Group had a review process that was ‘more rigorous than the ICAEW’ and ‘was capable of national excellence at a local level’.
