Institute members still against 'consolidation'
A 'super-institute' still seems a long way off after a new survey revealed that members of all the three institutes involved are against merger plans.

The snapshot survey of 500 members across the three institutes, by recruiters Parker Bridge, found that 64% of ICAEW members were against the ‘consolidation’, with most citing ‘a perceived loss of the value of the chartered qualification’.
However, ICAEW members’ opinions were polarised: 32% were in favour of the consolidation.
Perhaps most surprisingly, and against general perceptions, 71% of both CIMA and CIPFA members were also against the attempt to merge the three institutes.
Heads of the institutes have worked around the clock to woo council members and formulate an acceptable merger proposition, after CIMA’s rejection of the previous proposal at the end of 2005.
