CIOT supports initiative to catch tax dodgers

The Chartered Institute of Taxation has offered its backing to a Revenue
& Customs television advertising campaign calling on people to report those
who are fiddling their tax returns.
John Cullinane, deputy president at the CIOT, said it was the ‘duty of every
citizen to pay the tax which is legally due’. He said the institute welcomed the
new HMRC hotline which is aimed at making the reporting of fraud easier.
However the CIOT still believes that tax law should be made ‘simpler and
clearer, so that everyone understands what tax they have to pay’.
‘Instead’, he said, ‘the complications of the current system leave many
people befuddled and bewildered’.
