Chinese and UK institutes sign training deal
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales has been hired by
its Chinese counterpart to provide training to elite students.
The Chinese Institute of Chartered Public Accountants said the move was aimed
at tackling the acute shortage of professional accountants in China and
developing the country’s accounting profession.
Speaking at a recent conference hosted by the ICAEW, Wang Jun, China’s deputy
finance minister said the move was aimed at implementing the globalisation
strategy of China’s professional accountants.
China’s ministry of finance will arrange overseas examinations for certified
accountants.
ICAEW chief executive Eric Anstee said of the move: ‘We are looking forward
to working with the CICPA to create an elite group of globally capable advisers
who will assist in the development of the Chinese economy and its role in world
trade.’
However, the move is not the first by an accounting institute. ACCA began a
training programme in China in 1990 with about 30 students. It now has 10,000
students and some 1,000 members in the country.
