Accounting veteran steps down after 72 years
Long term of duty than the Queen
Long term of duty than the Queen
In what must rank as one of the longest serving roles in any profession,
Dennis Lloyd, now 89, has retired from the Sutton-based firm of Clarkson Hyde
after a staggering 72 years.
Lloyd first joined Clarkson Hyde, now part of The Hyde Partnership, in August
1933 as an articled clerk.
When the Second World War broke out he served in the army in South Africa and
India doing wireless radio detection work.
After the war, he returned to Clarkson Hyde becoming a partner in 1954, then
still only 37.
He was senior partner at Clarkson Hyde between 1973 and 1979, working from
the firm’s main offices in Sutton. He remained a partner until 1987 when, aged
70, he switched to a part-time role, acting as a consultant
Malcolm Coomber, senior partner at Hyde Partnership, said ‘The majority of us
cannot remember a time when the Queen was not on the throne and she seems to
have served her country forever. However, her length of service pales into
insignificance compared to Dennis’s service to our firm – she has nearly 20
years to go to catch him up.
