ACCA chief Allen Blewitt hits back at claims that the institute has lost out to competitors in the key member battlegrounds of Hong Kong and China, following new deals struck in the region
Blewitt dismissed claims that his organisation, which has 17,000 members in
Hong Kong, faced a ‘dramatic’ drop in the number of students taking ACCA
qualifications, following a deal that requires the association’s members to take
extra exams before earning the local qualification.
But Prem Sikka, professor of accounting at the University of Essex and an
ACCA member, warned that the association’s student numbers would drop
‘dramatically’ because of an earlier deal to allow Hong Kong-qualifieds to then
be allowed to join the ICAEW.
Sikka said many students would take the Hong Kong qualification and not
bother with ACCA.
