US govt: Iraq audit report standards 'too high'
Govt rejects report put out by Government Accountability Office
A draft report by the US Government
Accountability Office, which revealed that Iraq met just three of 18
congressionally mandated benchmarks, has been rejected by the US government.
Dana Perino, White
House spokeswoman, said the report set the bar too high for Iraq and it was
impossible for the Iraqis to meet the GAO’s standards.
She was backed up by State
Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey, who said that if you apply different
standards to the benchmarks you might come out with some different conclusions.
The Pentagon also disputes some findings of the GAO report and has asked that
‘factual corrections’ be made to it.
