Michael Snyder, senior partner at Kingston Smith, has been knighted in the
Queen’s birthday honours, and tax adviser John Whiting has been awarded an OBE
for public service.
ICAEW member Snyder was given the accolade for his ‘towering contribution to
the City of London Corporation, ensuring it is the world’s leading international
financial and business centre’, a statement said.
‘It’s always a team effort,’ said Snyder. ‘I’ve had fantastic support from my
partners at Kingston Smith.’
Snyder confirmed he would continue his work and had projects in the pipeline
but would be unable to renew his role in the City post, as a person can only
serve one term.
Whiting is one of the UK’s best-known tax advisers. He is widely quoted in
the media on tax issues, and often briefs MPs on tax matters.
Jane Scott Paul, chief executive of the AAT, was awarded an OBE for her
services to accountancy.
‘We have tried to improve corporate governance with things such as
transparency and that is what I will continue to do: give opportunities to
people,’ she said.
Tim Burr, the new comptroller and auditor general, becomes a Companion of the
Order of Bath.
CIPFA member Michael More was awarded a CBE, and both Vic Allison of Wychavon
Council and Michael William of the ICAEW were awarded OBEs.
