Nine cabinet members have claimed tax advice expenses

Chancellor Alistair Darling was among nine members of the cabinet who has
claimed expenses for tax advice.
Hazel Blears, Geoff Hoon and Jacqui Smith also claimed for expenses for tax
advice alongside Darling, according to the latest revelations from
the
Telegraph at the weekend
Darling claimed more than £1,400 for accountancy bills in two years, with a
claim in February 2008 including the cost of receiving tax advice for the
treatment of rental expenses against income.
Most people are not allowed to claim help filling in a self assessment form
as a legitimate business expense.
In a statement issued to the paper, Darling said: ‘Like many MPs, I employed
an accountant to prepare tax returns for each of the years in question to ensure
that the correct amount of tax was paid in respect of my office costs.’
