Payroll errors cost Ministry of Justice £1.5m
New payroll system flags up £1.5 in overpayments to Ministry of Justice staff
Ministry of Justice officials were overpaid £1.5m, which was discovered when
a new payroll system was introduced.
One official on a £22,000 salary was overpaid £18,500. More than half the
total overpayments by the department will not be paid back, reported the
Yorkshire
Post.
The errors were discovered when a new system was brought in when the department
was created out of the Home Office and Department for Constitutional Affairs.
“Significant steps” had been taken to tackle the problem, said a Ministry of
Justice spokesman.
The Taxpayers
Alliance said the government was wrong to just write off the error
payments.
