Charities to ditch NHS trustees over accounting fears
NHS charities look at ditching trusts as trustees over concerns that accounting guidelines could see their accounts dragged into the NHS
NHS charities are looking to appoint independent trustees to avoid having
their accounts included on the balance sheets of government bodies.
Most NHS charities have an NHS trust as a sole trustee but some were
considering appointing an independent trustee, for fear that under current
accounting guidance their accounts should be included on the trust’s balance
sheet, reported
Third
Sector.
Nearly 40 of the 282 charities with sole trustees were looking to appoint
indepdent trustees, according to a letter seen by Third Sector sent by the
Department of Health to trustees.
The department said many of the requests for an independent trustee had not
been thought through.
