Chris Bell calls for government help to keep the betting industry alive
Bookies need tax and regulation eased on the industry to help it survive,
Ladbrokes’ chief executive has warned.
Chris Bell said that the speed of change in public’s use of leisure time, and
the potential for tax rises in the next Budget.
Betting shops will quickly be damaged if the balance between tax and
regulation was not maintained, he said in the
FT.
Bell spoke as
Deloitte
produced a report for the bookmaker looking into the betting industry’s
contribution to the economy.
The Treasury
said it would continue to engage with the betting industry on tax matters.
