    UK seeks tax cooperation from developing world

    Pressures mounts again on tax avoidance

    The UK has asked developing countries to help crackdown on tax avoidance by
    swapping more information.

    The request comes ahead of a conference on financial crime today,
    Reuters
    reports    , and came from Treasury minister Stephen Timms.

    Timms has written to 16 countries with the proposal among them Jamaica,
    Cameroon, South Africa and Vietnam.

    The UK has become increasingly aggressive on tax avoidance but the G20
    meetings in the wake of the financial crisis brought a renewed focus on the
    issue as part of measures to stabilise financial systems.

    Timms is expecting replies by the end of March.
