Christian Aid has a dig at the financial opacity of football clubs
Four of the UK biggest clubs have topped
Christian
Aid’s football secrecy league, which looked at their financial and
ownership opacity.
Top of the list was Manchester United, followed by Tottenham Hotspur,
Manchester City and Liverpool.
The research looked into clubs’ owners and where they were based. It found
that 14 Premier League clubs and five in the Championship are now based
offshore.
“We are not suggesting that anything illicit or untwoard is taking place in
the clubs we identify…Our concern, however, is that the opaque nature of tax
havens masks the truth, whether or not there is anything to hide,” stated
Christian Aid in its report.
