The CIoT is opening a new branch for members working at the heart of
HMRevenue &Customs.
The new outlet is being launched today at the taxman’s offices in Whitehall
so that the specific training requirements of HMRC staff can be addressed more
efficiently.
HMRC is the eighth biggest employer of chartered tax advisers in the country,
employing 106 CTAs.
The taxman’s permanent secretary Dave Hartnett, and Andrew Hubbard, departing
President of the CIoT are both speaking at the launch.
In a statement, Hubbard said: “The number of tax advisers working in
government is often overlooked.
“Chartered tax advisers within HMRC have particular requirements, on training
for example, that are not being met by our existing branch network. This new
branch will fill that gap.”
Hubbard has been a central figure in establishing the new branch and
launching it will be his final act as CIoT President before handing over to
Vincent Oratore at the Institute’s AGM today.
“I would like to pay tribute to those of our members who have helped get this
new group off the ground, and to Dave Hartnett for the strong support he has
given to setting it up,” Hubbard added.
“I hope this new branch will further strengthen the existing strong working
relationship between the CIoT and HMRC.”
