Chancellor has said that the government will consult on a possible merger between National Insurance and income tax to make the tax system fit for "the modern age"
CHANCELLOR GEORGE OSBORNE has said that the government will consult on a possible merger between National Insurance and income tax to make the tax system “fit for the modern age”.
He said that the anomalies between the two systems were “legion”, and it costs businesses, taxpayers and HM Revenue & Customs.The government will consult on a possible merger although any integration would take “years to complete”.
There would be no plans to abolish the contributory principle of NI or charge pensioners for NI, he confirmed.
