A NEW professional designation has been created through a joint venture of CIMA and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
The Chartered Global Management Accountant title is designed to raise the profile of management accounting around the world. The new venture will cover more than 550,000 members and students.
AICPA is the world’s largest professional accounting body but its associates are mainly US based. The partnership will strengthen CIMA ties with AICPA members while giving the US institute closer links to CIMA’s network, which is strong in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
CIMA chief executive Charles Tilley (pictured) said: “The new CGMA will be recognised throughout the world as the gold-standard designation for management accountants who play a vital role in building sustainable business value. The joint venture will raise the profile of the profession and be a passport for careers throughout the world.”
The new CGMA letters will be issued early next year. AICPA members will need at least three years’ experience in management accounting or financial management to qualify for the designation, while CIMA members can use it at will.
