11 arrested in VAT raid

HMRC says arrests are in connection with £1m fraud

ELEVEN individuals have been arrested in connection with a VAT fraud worth £1m, HM Revenue & Customs has announced.

The raids took place on Wednesday morning on 16 properties in the West Midlands and Yorkshire.

HMRC’s assistant director for criminal investigation, Adrian Farley, said: “I am unable to give further details at this time as our investigations are continuing. We are committed to fighting criminal attacks on the tax system and driving down fraud in all its guises. This is not victimless crime, it is organised criminality that steals money from the British taxpayer.”
