THE INSOLVENCY SERVICE has recruited a former DEFRA divisional chief executive as its new CEO.
Richard Judge succeeds Stephen Speed who has been CEO of the Insolvency Service for more than four years. Speed is now moving on to become director of the energy development unit at the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
Bernadette Kelly, director-general at the department for Business Innovation and Skills, which overseas the Insolvency Service, said: “I am delighted to welcome Richard to the BIS family. He brings a huge range of skills and relevant experience which will be invaluable to the Insolvency Service over the coming years as it tackles a difficult restructuring process in the face of a changing insolvency market.”
Judge has been chief executive of an agency within DEFRA (the Department for Environmental Food and Rural Affairs) since 2007. Prior to that, he has worked in the nuclear, rail and environmental sectors in the UK.
“I am very pleased to be appointed as chief executive. I’m particularly looking forward to meeting people across the Insolvency Service to understand their aspirations and concerns as we set about tackling the tough issues we face,” he said.
“I will also be keen to engage with a wide range of stakeholders in taking forwards our plans to create a more robust, flexible and efficient service for the future.”
He takes on his role at the end of July.
